STACK THE ODDS IN YOUR FAVOR

To survive, you must learn to find hidden seed money, turn an idea into a product, attract angel investment and defend your business from the people, practices, and delusions that kill 9 out of 10 startups.

In The Startup Survivor, I help you solve real-world problems, like these:

CASH FLOW CRISIS

Most startups get this wrong! “Managing money is hard, but it’s not complicated. Don’t hire a CFO; be one.”

FATAL ATTRACTIONS

Entrepreneurs are often idea factories, but losing focus is a fatal mistake. “Focus is one of the cornerstones of success, and it comes from the top.”

ESSENTIAL FEATURE

Shipping is a feature. You can’t survive if you can’t deliver. “In the often contentious debate about which features a product should have, shipping is one that it must have.”

CLIMB YOUR STARTUP MOUNTAIN

FIND THE SHORTEST PATH

The startup adventure can be treacherous and unpredictable. Time and money, the food and water of this trek, will always be limited, so your best chance of success is to heed the signposts and avoid the pitfalls.  I can help.

Consider The Startup Survivor your map and compass as you face challenges like:

DELEGATION DILEMMA

You can’t do everything, but knowing when and what to delegate can be a matter of life and death. It’s easy to let go of the things you don’t like to do, like paying the bills, but some of those things provide critical insight into the health of your business. It can be hard to let go of the things you love, but that’s leadership.

NO PAIN, NO GAIN

Knowing when to hire, and who’s the best fit, is one of the greatest challenges you’ll face. Your college buddy might seem like a good choice, but your business isn’t a fraternity. You’ll soon learn that cutting people loose is another major challenge, but keeping the wrong people can mean everyone loses.

YOU CAN SUCCEED...

...BUT FIRST, YOU MUST SURVIVE

THE STARTUP SURVIVOR WILL HELP

"WISH I HAD THIS SOONER"

It takes a team to build a successful company and launch a new book. So this is my chance to say “Thanks!” to the entrepreneurs, investors, and coaches that have already grabbed the book and taken the time to share their thoughts.

From the early reviews and discussions I’ve had with readers, a common theme has emerged – wish I had this earlier.

And, you know what? Me too!

YOUR GO-TO GUIDE FOR INNOVATIVE ENTREPRENEURS AND THE PEOPLE WHO WORK FOR THEM.

A great concise compilation for those wishing to launch a new business AND the people who want to work at these startups. Maloof gives great guidance and tips in bite-sized, digestible pieces of information in easy to read, and easy to understand, chapters. Not another dry “laundry list”, The Startup Survivor is a relatable, relevant, and an enjoyable read.

As an individual who has worked for several startups at the managerial level, I found the advice right on target. For those wanting to work at a startup, this book will help you understand what is needed of you to contribute to the success of the company.

GIVE THIS GIFT TO EVERY YOUNG ENTREPRENEUR YOU KNOW.

I’ve read hundreds, perhaps thousands of books, articles and essays on this subject. This vaulted to the top of the pile immediately. Great work Michael, and thank you for pouring your experience onto the page. While it is filled with actionable advice for startups and angels, it should be required reading for everyone who is an advisor or mentor to young entrepreneurs. I look forward to the next one!

Most people have some idea on how to improve the world but few are willing to take the entrepreneurial plunge.

After reading The Startup Survivor many of my personal fears about starting my own business have been replaced by golden nuggets of wisdom. Each chapter is a complete thought and can be individually referenced later in case you are actually dealing with patent lawyers or an acquisition etc…

…If you are a dreamer or even an already established small business executive then you need to buy this book!
